Read what the cat says today...Edit edit: Hmm ok so I never take history or politics modules before la. But if you read the papers right, especially in Apr in China, the protests and boycotting against Koizumi visiting the Yasukuni Shrine, was er, abit overboard. Do you see the Koreans doing such things? Like, smashing windows of the Japanese-owned shops and such. Yes, I hate the Japaneses for what they'd done in the past to Chinese and other Asians, and I think they deserve to die over and over again for those atrocities, but it doesn't really make sense to do all those boycotting, burning of flags (if it happened, I can't remember if the Chinese did that in Apr), attacking and protesting at the Japanese embassy, etc. Aren't we civilized people? And there's no way one totally don't use something not made in Japan or what rite? The walkman/discman, rice cooker, or TV brands, laptop brands, so on and so forth. It's exactly as although we know Hitler is a tyrant and dictator and deserve to die over and over again (same for Mussolini), most of us would still want to tour Europe, go to Germany/Italy, eat their food, play the music (for those who learn piano or violin or what). My point is, we should separate the past from the present. We can despise what they did, we can hate them for it, but that's history. We shouldn't forget history, but we shouldn't also keep remembering it, no? Another thing I don't understand about the Chinese is, why were they so agitated about the Korean wave? It was mentioned that the Chinese were worried about the Korean wave overriding the Chinese-produced drama, yada yada. If your people have a strong background of your own culture, why worry that another country's culture will wipe out your own? And Korea is so near China geographically, can you risk angering your neighbour by banning their dramas or products? Shouldn't you embrace it, like how Koreans embrace Japanese culture bit by bit, and vice versa? I don't think by doing so the Koreans have forgotten what the Japanese did to them decades ago right?
My two cents worth. And I risk getting called a bimbo again by someone. -winks- But I'm just voicing out what. And I never say you guys' comments are wrong and mine is right, right? Oh, and I'm not anti-mainland Chinese ah. I've got quite a few mainland Chinese frens. When I play with my cat, who knows if I am not a pasttime for her more than she is to me?---Michel deMontaigne---
